Abstract

Reconstruction of lost functions by sensomotor stimulation in patients with hemiparesis after stroke base on individual work with therapist. Applying devices should be supplement of this process. Special kind of rehabilitation aids are devices using biofeedback. Bicycle Thera vital to passive and active exer-cises of lower extremities is an example of such device. Provided with software which generates feedback information and displays symmetry and commitment of lower extremities during work. The assessment of benefits from bicycle exercises in patients with hemiparesis after stroke is the aim of his study. 58 patients after ischemic and haemorhagic stroke in various time from falling ill were studied in rehabilitation department. The symmetry of lower extremities load, speed of walk, intensification of pare-sis according to Brunnstrom scale, muscular tension in Ashworth scale and self-service according to Barthel index were examined. Examination was executed twice during patient's stay in department. Additional bicycle exercises were applied 15 days for 15 minutes. Feedback information on extremities efficiency and device parame-ters was displayed on the screen. The load and training program were selected individually. The improvement of speed of walk and symmetry of lower limbs load, decrease of muscular tension in patients with spasticity and also the improvement of self- dependence and general efficiency were ob-served. Results show that additional bicycle exercises may be applied in patients with neurological disorders.
