Abstract

Obesity is the most common civilization disease mostly occurring in rich and highly developed countries. In Poland prevalence of obesity in children is about 12-15% and grows up year by year. Obesity has got a lot of negative consequences on infant health status. The most important is increased risk of premature death. Rehabilitation in obesity is a comprehensive service focused on educating on healthy life style and helping adults and children with disabilities reach optimal function and independence. The best results may be obtained during treatment that consists of four basic topics: education of patients and their families (behavior modifications), dietary and nutrition recommendations, progressive exercise treatment and psychotherapy.
