Abstract

Diagnosis and treatment of low back pain are very serious medical problems. Coexistence of depression and low back pain lessens the possibility of complete cure and worsens patient's prognosis. The aim of this study is to assess the influence of depression symptoms on multidisciplinary rehabili-tation treatment of chronic low back pain. We examined 72 ZUS patients with chronic low back pain and after 24 day of intensive rehabilitation cycle. We used Roland and Morris questionnaire for functional status, fingers-floor test and Schaer test for flexibility of low back, and visual analogue pain scale. We used Beck depression scale to assess patients' psychological state. We observed depression symptoms in 52,8% of examined patients. We observed improvement of functional state in 40,3% patients. The results of rehabilitation treatment of depressed patients are worse than compared to non-depressed group. In this group we found less number of patients whit functional improvement, low back flexibility improvement and decrease of pain.
