Abstract

In the rehabilitation of people after stroke, we still search for the physiotherapy methods that will enable for the best solution to the problem of this group. The basic component of a complex rehabilitation is physiotherapy, which is also important for preventing the consequences of reduced activity and immobilization. There is a scientific evidence for the physical and functional benefits of long-term involvement in physical activity of people after stroke. The methods used in the neurological physiotherapy are based on a broad multifaceted stimulation of the central nervous system, which on the basis of the phenomenon of brain plasticity allows for repeated learning of motor skills. Significant factors of modern physiotherapy of patients after stroke are the dynamics, task orientation and taking into account individual needs and abilities of the patient. Aim of the study: Presentation of current results of research related to emerging trends in physiotherapy of people after stroke. Methodology: A review of the literature was based on randomized analyses published in English and Polish, in 2001–2010. The study was based on articles in the following databases: Science Direct, Medline, Termedia, Polish Medical Bibliography.
