Abstract

Introduction: The rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, progressive, autoimmune disease. It leads to destructive, inflammatory changes in many joints as well as to complications in the internal organs and causes mental disorders. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of radiological changes within joints on the quality of life of patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Material and methods: The study was performed in a group of 130 patients with rheumatoid arthritis hospitalized in the Department of Rheumatology of the Regional Hospital no 2 in Rzeszów. The patients were divided into four groups according to radiological Steinbrocker’s scale. The quality of life was assessed by Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) questionnaire. Results: Here were statistically significant differences in quality of life between groups of I and IV degree of radilogical changes intensyfication (p=0,021). It was proven that there is no revelant connection between the quality of life and place of residence of patients suffering from RA . Conclusions: A relation between the quality of life and the intensification of radiological changes as well as the place of residence was established among the patients with rheumatoid arthritis. In the group examined a relation between the quality of life and the sex was ruled out.
