Conditioning of self-care abilities of the patients with colostomy formed after operational therapy of colorectal cancer
Abstract
Aim: The purpose of this study was evaluation of the impact of social-demographic factors and getting the support to the level of knowledge and behaviour of the patients, necessary for independent managing with the stomy problems.
Material and methods: An investigation questionnaire and reporting psychometrical tool of own construction were applied in the examinations, to evaluate preparation of the patients to their self-care in the aspect of their knowledge, behaviours and activity. The research was conducted on a group of 164 patients at Świętokrzyskie Oncology Centre in Kielce.
Results and conclusions: Statistical analysis of the collected research material showed, that the levels of knowledge and behaviours of the patients essentially differ such variable areas as education and support from the self-aid groups, while less difference concerns their age, place of residence and professional activity.
