Abstract

Subject: Usefulness of computer equipment for checking foot function after surgical treatment of herniated disc in lumbalis part of vertebral column- – preliminary report Material and methods: The research has been carried out on a group of 20 patients after surgical treatment of herniated disc and stay on Clinical Ward of Rehabilitation. We measured: muscle force and moving range of the foot in flexion and extention by using electronic measuring instrument for foot testing, level of pain ( VAS), influence back pain on everyday life by RMQ-questionnaire, flexibility of vertebral column in thoracic and lumbalis part in Otto and Schober test. The study was made two times; at the beginning of the rehabilitation and 3 weeks later. Results: We noticed improvement in 65 % of patients in moving range of the foot in dorsal flexion. In dorsal flexion muscle power was better in 55 % and in plantar flexion in 40 % of the patients. Improvement has been found in 50 % of patients in Schober test (bend to the front) In RMQ – questionnaire 55 % of the patients noticed better everyday life function after three weeks of the rehabilitation. As a result of the research we noticed reducing of pain level by VAS in 80 % of patients. Conclusion: Computer equipment for measure of moving range and muscle force in ankle joint is usefull for treatment estimation of the patients after operation of herniated lumbalis disc. Early rehabilitation of the patients after surgical treatment of herniated disc in lumbalis part of the vertebral column with sciatica syndrome, permit to reduce pain and increase for better function of the vertebral column and of the foot.
