Abstract

The paper presents the results of analysis of changes in development of the body height and mass and chest circumference in the Rzeszow children and adolescents, aged 3 to 18, during 25-year period. The following indices were calculated: Rohrer index, BMI (WQ2) and Marty's index. It was found that the process of acceleration in development of body height and mass appears both in boys and girls in whole studied period of ontogenesis. In regard to chest circumference, the similar process appears only in girls. The acceleration of chest circumference development in boys has occurred at age 3 to 15, but at age 16 to 18 a deceleration in development of this characteristic was observed. The changes in proportion between body height and mass in boys at age 3 to 6 resulted in slenderness of body build, and at age 18 an opposite tendency was observed. The process of slenderness in girls has appeared at age 16 to 18. The mean values of BMI index in the Rzeszow boys and girls indicate for a good state of nutrition and correct proportions between body weight and height.
